when googlebot finds a link to somewhere, the page the link goes to will be put into the database and may show up as a "supplemental result", meaning it hasn't actually indexed the page properly yet, but it knows that it's there.

then it goes onto the list to be properly indexed at a later time.

when it's been indexed, the information will take time to propagate through the datacenters, so it may show up on one search, then not, depending on which datacenter you happen to get on.
