Bi weekend - 1st-3rd Feb

OK, some people know about this already and I've been meaning to do more about it but any parent will tell you how it is with time and now it's urgent.

One of the most enjoyable bi events I've been to was after the Norwich BiCon (1992!) A weekend chilling and talking and playing games with people who'd been around the community for some years in someone's house.

And not least as in some ways, the UK bi community is in a bit of a mess at the moment, I'd like to repeat that. People - especially those still doing something in and for the community - went away feeling refreshed and happier about it.

So there's a youth hostel booked for the first weekend of February. It's in the nice bit of Milton Keynes - easy to get to from all over the UK. And with attractions like the real snow slope. It's in a 17th Century farmhouse in one of the old villages that had the rest plonked in between them. It sleeps 37 people.

It's a chance to have fun and talk about what you want to happen in the bi world.

And I need people to say 'yes, I will come'. Now.

The total cost of hiring is about £360 - just under £10 per head if full. Add some food and drink, say £10 each and it's still incredibly cheap.

At the moment, there are about ten people committed to coming. I want more. Not only will that reduce the per person cost, it'll make the weekend even better.

A non BiCon Bi-Event that doesn't involve London.
I like it. I like the idea alot.
How "reachable" is it from the station?

Only other thing to do is for me to offer another person or so a lift from Manchester (to share in petrol expenses) - and be damned the mileage on the car (sob).

But yeah - It sounds good to me - I wouldn't mind saying "Yes".

I could do with another BiCon-esque buzz in my life at the moment.

Thats cool - It's still tempting to drive down (just as then I get to listen to the tunes of choice on the way down).

Has it escaped your memory that that weekend is booked for alt.polycon8 and has been since last BiCon? I am feeling quite irritated about the clash, especially as some of the folks I was hoping would be at the alt.polycon (which I've been committed to for a long time) will undoubtedly choose the Bi weekend instead whereas we all might have done both otherwise ... *feeling niggly*

No it hasn't - I did a little "argh" last year when I discovered 'my' venue was booked about two days before H-L announced she'd booked 'her' dates. Having said that, I didn't know she had the weekend pencilled in as far back as BiCon.

But the number of suitable YH venues is small (actually, there only about four) and this was the only weekend available for this one, my first preference.

Oh well, can't be helped - it is a shame though, not least because I was hoping to see you and Lisa and the baby at alt.polycon! Sorry about being bitchy ... hope your event is great fun for those who do go to it!

My tooth has been fixed now, btw - maybe that is contributing to my feeling less bitchy too! *grin*

Neither of us actually read alt.poly - her never and I was only ever 'hardly ever'.

Come to my weekend instead :) Any Americans who are coming to Alt.Polycon won't be in the UK for just a weekend, surely :)

Nice try Ian, but ... Sorry, no can do - registrations are in the post, and I am determined to get to this APC after failing to get to the one in San Francisco years back when I first started reading alt.poly. I *did* go as far as San Diego, but the lover I was staying with really didn't want to share me with the con and we ended up staying put instead!
