Word file oddity

There's a Word file here that, when you try to open it, results in a 'The document name or path is not valid' error.

Happens whether you try to open it via file/open or via explorer.

Unfortunately it's protected by a (known) password, so I can't just use a hex file viewer to extract the contents.

The offsite backups should have an ok copy - the creation and updated dates straddle the generation of an offsite CD - but they're offsite :)

Suggestions?

JICIH: Make sure the file is on a local disk, the pathname is short, and it contains no spaces. For example C:\myfle.doc.

I've had similar problems in the past. Making a copy of the file sometimes works.

Both good ideas. It may also be worth downloading a copy of OpenOffice and trying it in that: it's extremely good at recovering partially-corrupted MS Office fi;es. Not sure of the impact of the password, though.

Oh really?

Well, 1.1 is out now and might be better...
