I know they're desperate, but this is really silly, isn't it?

You pay money in the hope that the amount of your bid is the highest that hasn't been bid by anyone else... and sadly, there's a minimum limit on how many bids can be made before you can possibly win it.

Why would anyone use that system? It might make a lot of money for the people who run it but... what's the advantage? It just seems too shady for my liking.
