A remix of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Lyric Hammersmith is one of the funniest plays I've ever seen.

It helps if you know the one paragraph outline of the original...

In Athens, Hermia loves Lysander (and vice versa) but her father the Duke wants to marry her off to Demetrius, who Helena loves. The four of them run off to the magical forest, where Oberon, king of the Fairies, tries to put things right via his servant Puck, but Puck messes it up. Meanwhile, a bunch of craftsmen are trying to rise above their bad acting skills to put on a performance for the marriage of the Duke. One of them, Bottom, ends up turned into a donkey and Oberon's wife Titania falls for him.

.. but even that's not essential.

With this material is worked some utter theatrical genius where not only is the 'fourth wall' shattered, but so are all the others.

The official opening is on Thursday - get your tickets now before word spreads about how good this is and it sells out. If I were still living in London, I'd be going at least once again.
