EU e-tax

On one level, it makes a lot of sense - why should AOL be able to undercut EU firms because it doesn't have to charge EU customers VAT?

On another - argh, there go many of the the cheap deals.

*grump* VAT is a stupid tax and the sooner it's abolished, the better. I hope it does get referred to the WTO.

VAT is here to stay, not least because other EU countries see it as a way of catching people who have dodged their income tax, as well as providing the central bodies with income.

And it makes more sense than Purchase Tax, even if it's too high.

It catches those of us who have paid our income tax, too, and as far as I can see, to all intents and purposes it *is* a purchase tax.
