The affordability of childcare is a huge political issue at the moment, but this really is small potatoes!

It's long been an issue - the person I used to work with got into politics in the early 80s about it.

For the first three years, most of my after-tax earnings at ex-work went in JA nursery fees. It might even have been three quarters or more.

This is the childcare equivalent of the 'It's so tough being as pretty and rich as what I am' piece one of their columnists did a couple of years ago. Except they didn't put that as the lead on the front page.
