Yet another unecessary remake?

They - Dreamworks - have remade The Ring, a rather good Japanese horror film.

At least we got to see the original: "having optioned the rights, Dreamworks effectively ensured the Japanese original will not be released in the US."

Dreamworks have done some good things, and could make a good, if rather fx-laden movie. But if they want to make a horror movie, why *remake* one? why not just make another movie on a similar theme? I've not seen Ring (though I did rather frighten [livejournal.com profile] zotz by coming downstairs the day after he'd seen it in a recently-purchased white nightgown), but by all accounts it's a fine film. It's a shame that US audiences won't get to appreciate it.

No WAY!
Loved The Ring, Ring 2 was no where near as good but Ring O is meant to be ok. I guess Audition will be next, now that is a fine - fine scary film.
