It's not just you...

Slightly annoyingly, L's and JA's copies of Firefox had the 'studies' feature enabled and have avoided this. Mine had them disabled and hasn't.

I am fortunate enough to run a non-branded version on my main machine (but not at work, or my Ubuntu laptop). So on the most important one I can at least set xpinstall.signatures.required to False, in about:config.
I also use version 52, because of the *other* extensions cock-up...

Sigh... I really need to get a browser I can trust...
