On discovering by accident last night that a particular LJ username was available - and taking it for something friends-only - I wondered this morning if the domain name was also free.

The first choice is registered up to 2011.

The second choice was registered by someone five days ago...

yup ... its a bitch when that happens , isn't it.

I reckon it is worse though when someone has registered a name for ten years of whatever a few years ago but not then done a thing with it (presumably once hoping to sell it for a fortune ...)
