Adobe buys Macromedia

.. not in itself a big surprise - PageMill and the Adobe Flash clone whose name escapes me (Scalable Vector Format?) have never come close to the success of Dreamweaver and Flash.

But $3.4 billion???

Come on, even in your own shares, that's way too much.

I always thought of them as the same, and was constantly surprised they were not.

Adobe seems to have either free or expensive products. I'm not sure what this will do to Macromedia products.

I don't count Macromedia as being particularly 'cheap' and the Adobe CS2 suite is surprisingly (for Adobe) inexpensive. I doubt prices will change much.
