Looks like Ming's won the Liberal Democrats' leadership election.

Oh well, at least he won't be around as leader after the next general election.

It is due to be announced in a few seconds, but I *really* hope it is not Huhne ..

I posted a comment in [livejournal.com profile] libdems about it ... extracts about Huhne...

tbh I'm not over-happy about any of the three left on offer ...

Huhne: open backstabber of CK. I noticed that in the televised contenders debate he tried to speak as little as possible, and what he did say was mostly platitudes. If he was to win I would be carefully considering my continued membership of the Party.

At the last election we tried a "decapitation strategy" to get rid of leading tories. It didn't really work as their majorities were just enough to protect them.

Huhne only just scraped in at the last election. His *first* election to Westminster. He has little or no personal vote in the area and is not a guaranteed winner of the seat at the next GE, certainly not if Labour and Tory decided to target it (and they would if he became leader, have no doubt).

How would it look to take on a new boy as the leader who didn't even last more than a term?

I voted for Simon. Ming was my second choice and I wonder if that applies to many voters, and so that's how he got in. It's a bit depressing, because no matter what he said, I don't think he's going to be a shiny new innovative leader.
