Oh, does anyone have a spare DVD writer lying around (EIDE preferably, SATA if necessary) and does anyone want a EIDE DVD drive?

Why yes, it has just stopped wanting to write DVDs (and CDs).

At the moment, it's about to be replaced with a CD writer/DVD combo, and a USB DVD writer should be here by Friday, but it'd be useful if anyone reasonably local had writer they don't need.

Other kit lying around: a Yamada DVD player (DivX, multi-region, Dolby 5.1 output, plus will output a down-mixed stereo as well as 5.1 which its replacement won't do). About two or three years ago, these were the ones to go for, being both inexpensive and capable of playing your downloaded .AVI files. Working, with remote, but possibly not with manual (should be downloadable).

The only thing I didn't like about it was that when playing some DVDs, there'd be a whirring noise for about a minute around 30 minutes into the film - obviously the disc speed at that point is causing some slight resonation, and the location of the IR detector for the remote control meant I had to be tidy on top of a nearby bookshelf, or it would be hidden! Not much, but the cost of its replacement wasn't much either.

Artec Ultima 2000 scanner USB powered, 300 dpi, 24 bit colour. Works with Windows, but there aren't any Linux drivers for this version...

Not speaking on his behalf, but I'm giving a small widescreen TV to [livejournal.com profile] twisted_times and he doesn't have an aerial or DVD player, so it's not much use to him right now, but if put together with your player, a nice little setup. If no one else expresses interest, maybe you could drop him a note?

Hi there; I see you've friended me. Give me a hint here; did we meet this weekend?

(love the Mannikin Pis icon, btw)

I'm a little confused at to the contest of your second sentence...?

But I'll friend you anyway; confusion isn't something that bothers me.

And now I see that my erroneous typing could cause *more* confusion, which just proves my point. ;-)

What I mean was, 'I'm a little confused as to the context of your second sentence...'
