Tate Modern currently has an exhibition of Gabriel Orozco. No, I'd never heard of him. He's done some photo series, some diagrams and some sculpture. The latter varies between the silly (toilet paper on a ceiling fan) to the more impressive (a Citroën car made much slimmer and an undersized lift).

It also includes an empty shoe box. Now, the other pieces have lines around them, with words like 'don't touch' on the floor.

Guess who kicked the shoe box when passing?

Apparently, it's called 'Empty Shoe Box' and it is supposed to be in that exact location.

I am tempted to ask for the cctv footage and sell it as Art.

Did you read the Gurdain article about how many people do this? Some people drop dtuff in it, as well. It's all very silly :-)

I did gather I was not the first person to do this :) It turns out that it has a (silent) alarm inside, but I missed the gallery's security turning up to reposition it.

It could have been worse: I'm half looking for a shoe box to put something in and this one is white and easy to label...

Once did something similar at Sheffield Art Gallery.
They had an installation called 'roadkill' by an artist whose name I don't recall: mostly photographs of Furries lying by the side of road. I took a shortcut across the gallery, didn't look down and kicked a 'sculpture' - a mock-up of a fox - lying in the centre of the gallery into the corner.
Sheepishly scarpered away somewhat sharpish.
