Not all of them, not least as I suspect that no-one is interested in providing a new home to several hundred home-recorded VHS tapes, but about a dozen have some important bi stuff on them (including assorted 1990s talk shows with members of the community).

Incredibly annoyingly, the HDD recorder here that could have made copies of them stopped working recently and nothing has got it to boot up. (At some point, I will open it up and see if the hard drive is readable.)

So does someone have a video grabber I can borrow and convert the tapes to .avi or similar? Extra points if it works with Linux. Alternatively, does someone want me to bring around a video recorder and the tapes and let them do the conversion?

Ooh, if you find a good solution to this, please let me know. I have a rather large VHS film collection taking up space on my shelves, plus a lot of taped things which are less replaceable.
