Addison Lee (a well-known minicab company) have lost their case to have their vehicles drive in bus lanes, as taxis are allowed to do.

You may remember the fuss over the owner's comments, particularly about cyclists.

The verdict is here: they attempted to argue it was a restraint on trade banned by EU law, because some of its customers are based in other member states or some minicab drivers may be deterred from coming to work in the UK because of this restriction. The court told them to get lost.

ah - had wondered how that case had progressed (and glad at decision)

After all, there is nothing stopping them from putting all their drivers through the knowledge and running a closed-circuit taxi service which would let them drive anywhere. Mind you though, I've always objected to hackney carriages being able to use bus lanes anyway as they are the least-effective 'public' transport.
