lovingbothI met Gore Vidal a couple of times.
When, on the day of the opening ceremony, the presenters of the Today programme said it was not a day for cynicism, it was in his voice that I thought that it is always a day for cynicism.
My favourite Vidal example was in a South Bank Show, where he noted that hardly anyone in America kept a diary, but wasn't it interesting that all the infamous assassins were discovered to have done so, saying 'I am a lone nut assassin, and not part of any conspiracy...'
