When I say some more, it will be behind a spoiler alert cut tag, but even as someone who thought that the first series of the US remake of House of Cards was very very good, I am in awe of the quality of the second series, and I haven't finished it yet.

I felt it would be dishonourable to watch the first series (as usually US remakes are, in essence, crap). Would I take it that maybe I should rethink that decision and head to the torrents?

Indeed. My first thought was "If they stooped to the level of dumbing down the name Urquhart, it has to be really terrible indeed..."

Really terrible remakes of great UK shows: 'Being Human', 'The Inbetweeners'.

I need to watch the original again (I recently bought it s/h somewhere very cheap) to confirm it, but...

Quite possibly better than the original remakes of great UK shows: 'House of Cards'.

There are some things that don't ring true, but what's been kept is the intelligence.

Non-spoilerish example from series two: there's a vote that one side doesn't want to happen, but the audience for this is expected to know what a 'quorum' is, and there are no "if there aren't n people there, the vote won't be valid" explanations to any intern.
