... I've found a copy of Cristina's 1980 cover of 'Is that all there is?' which Annie Nightingale played a lot way back then. I loved it, but Leiber and Stoller didn't. So they had it deleted.
Ian....if this is what I think it is, then I have spent the last 15 years of my life looking for that cover version and never knew who it was recorded by. Is that the version where the lyrics deviate from the original and make the whole thing more sleazy altogether? tell me, tell me... k x
Very probably :) I'll stick it somewhere over the weekend for you, rather than inflict a multi-megabyte mail attachment.
The track I don't even have a name or artist to look for was the soundtrack to a fabulous bit of student animation around 1990. It was a synth / guitar sound and opened with the lines "If music be the food of love, play on... until all sense is gone", then had "alpha omega" a lot.
Oh. Sorry. I found that last year sometime. . . . you should have said you were after it. Does it have the wierd skip? If not, then you've a better copy than me.
I've just downloaded this too, I'm afraid - the temptation was simply too great to overcome /whimper/. The SM twist to the stroll along the river clinches it! & that deadpan ~i've seen the whole fucking thing before - yawn~ way in which the song is delivered. Brilliant!
I remember Annie N. playing it, too! Was (still is) on my list of singles to look out for on travels. But it was actually deleted within hours of official release(ie same day). Obviously the radio stations had pre-release copies & I think these are the only ones ever to get out there...
Oh yeah, in case you're wondering just who I am...I was doing a friends of friends trawl being an LJ newbie -concetrating on people I sort of know from bicon. You *definitely* now get a place on my friends list!
I had a copy in my hands, around 1983, when playing around with the student union's DJ decks while setting up the lighting for some event or other, wand felt very restrained in returning it to the box.
A photo would help - my memory for matching names to faces without them both together in front of me is a-pall-ing.
