For me, the most interesting part of the film was the bit where the three Union soldiers arrive at the farmstead where Jude Law is the overnight guest of the young widow with the sick baby.
After killing the two who want to rape her, he lets the third - who's begun to cover up the baby - go, but she then shoots him in the back.
What I find particularly interesting is that I can understand and sympathise with all three of them...
