What's a good online guide to the law on 'aiding and abetting' / conspiracy?
Is it the case that you can be done for aiding and abetting anything that's illegal, or does the criminal act itself need to be sufficiently serious?
The offence in this case is 'carding' - placing ads related to prostitution on or near a public telephone. Because they find it hard to nab the carders who actually commit the offence, several workers who use cards to advertise have been threatened by the police that they'll be done for aiding and abetting the offence, on the grounds that their number is on cards that have been collected from phone boxes.
Googling for a&a isn't terribly helpful: hits include things like the record industry suggesting BT should be done for a&a copyright offences.
