Morally, which would you say is worse: being a prostitute and not telling your mother, or being a client and not telling your partner? (Plus 'just as bad/ok as each other').

Ah Ok. Morally I have no issue with either. From a H&S/disclosure point of view then I think you should tell your partner if you are seeing a professional as well. People can get quite hurt and feel inadequate, so if it's explained up front they either have the choice to not get into the relationship, or they get into the relationship totally knowing the score.

If you lie to your mother you're only going to hurt her feelings. If you lie to a partner about your sexual activity, you are depriving them of information needed to make informed, consensual choices about their sexual health.

This - though most mothers might well be more upset if you did tell them!
And with your sexual partner there's lots of other questions that might be related, like were you in a monogamous relationship and have thus cheated on the partner, or if a more open relationship are you aware of each others views on the ethics of using prostitutes, etc, etc. But adding to their health risk I think is the main one.

I can't remember hearing about such a disconnect from reality since this guy.

Or the guy who thought that the release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind in 1977 was directly linked to Aids being noticed in 1981.
