Why haven't Transport for London made more fuss about the way that all travelcards - regardless of zone - are valid on buses across the whole of London?
I dunno, I am fully aware of it though. Maybe they publicise it more outside of London as people like me are the peopel who buy them, and we dont' live in London.
Yes, they did something here about bus cash fares being only one zone across London (or, more cynically, they increased the fares outside Central London!)
But bus stops still have which travelcard zone they're in, and that's now misleading... doubly so as I've just looked at a 2003 leaflet - and the same thing was true then too.
It almost makes the weekly bus pass a mug purchase - that costs £9.50, but for only 30p more, you can also travel on tube/trains/trams/DLR etc in one zone (possibly more than one for trams).
I always maintain that London is cheaper than Reading in so many ways. I think it costs me something like 1 pound 40 to get to town from where I live - a 15 minute journay covering about 2 miles.
I am fed up with all the proposed 'above inflation' rises on trains and underground fares, if they were to take away being able to use the buses within the use of a travel card I think I would just bloody move. Londoners are getting paid less and less, raises not meeing rate of inflation, how can you justify such high rises in public transport and still say you are trying to get more people to use it.
Mr Livingstone has his head so far up the Olympic committees arses, i.e. he wants the Olympics in London so bad, he is going to find anyway he can to fun changes needed to get it, even if he makes life difficult for the majority of Londoners.
I wasn't aware of that at all - but I had wondered about the value of Travelcards given that i thought they just got you about in Zones 1&2 (or wherever). In fact, I'd been about to go buy a carnet of Saver tickets for venturing outside Zone 2. So thanks!
There was a big advertising campaign when they first made it so, about 3 years ago. I think the fares leaflets which give prices for all the travelcards and bus passes mention it too.
At the moment all advertising is focused on swiping your oyseter in and out.

taxis are way more expensive in Reading.

It's the 42% increase in Savers / morning Oyster that's particularly outrageous...
