Giant squid

The Today programme keeps talking about the one that's been photographed being eight metres across. The BBC's web site says eight metres long... which sounds much smaller.

I only realised that manta rays could get up to 23 feet in "disk length" after following the link that rysmiel posted
here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/rysmiel/396933.html) , hadn't heard about the squid, thanks :-)
