... do you delete files from it (after transferring them to your pc or online photo service or.. obviously) or get a new one?

There was a time when I did the former, but that was when a decent sized CF card cost lots. I think the 512k one was £95 when I bought it. Now, that would get me hundreds of times more storage - even with higher resolution cameras and RAW formats, it's hard to fill them up with still photos.

And we print important ones.

(Yes, this is prompted by the Wired hack's hacking.)

I move all photos from my camera's card to my computer (and mostly thence to Flickr) and delete them straight away. I'm not sure what the point would be of keeping them on the camera/card - the screen's not big enough to see the pictures properly and I end up completely deleting about half the pictures when I look at them and decide which are best.

I reckon being backed up mostly to Flickr and to two external hard drives is probably enough, and that way it's the final versions that are backed up, rather than the unprocessed snaps.
But yes, I can see your reasoning.

Dump to disk and delete. I tend to dump to disk fairly quickly, then delete only when the card is actually full.
